What is causing the gaps?
Availability of gaps between the teeth is mostly genetic. However, they could be also caused by some personal habits such as tongue thrusting or atypical shape of the tongue or swallowing motions.  For instance, permanent tongue thrusting of the teeth could push them apart.  Loss of dental arc under the gum tissue could also spread the teeth. Sometimes, the teeth are extracted due to some infections or diseases thus causing unpleasant gaps. Often, due to the loss of the rear teeth the masticatory activity is undertaken by the incisors, which causes the gaps between the teeth.  Reason for occurrence of such gap strongly depends on the manner of its treatment. For example, for a patient suffering the gum disease, firstly this problem has to be solved and then to eliminate gaps among the teeth.

Three methods for reduction of the dental gaps.
Depending on the cause, size of the gap, its location and condition of the neighbour teeth there are several ways to close the gaps that are not visible. Your choice would considerably depend both on the price and nature of your teeth. The gap correction includes one of the three main factors:
- change of the teeth position by some dentistry methods;
- restoration of the teeth by bounding, laminating or coating with porcelain veneers;
- removal of the teeth and replacing them with a bridge or implant.
Removal of a tooth is the less desired alternative and is applied only as a last measure when the teeth are suitable for extraction. When the teeth are beautiful and healthy their rearrangement could be ideal, because in such case no email will be lost.
There are some alternatives like the completely coated veneers, which for the purposes of cosmetic correction would require removal of health dental structure. Nevertheless, the patients very often prefer the prompt results. In such cases the bonding or laminating are probably the best possible solutions.
In some other cases the best results could be achieved by a combination of therapies. Reading of this information will be extremely helpful when discussing with your dentist the best suitable option for you. Just remember that the aim of the treatment is to fill in the gaps in a manner minimizing the loss of the natural dental surface.

Diastema (gap) and the average deviation axis
This guy is a journalist in local TV channel having a big gap between his incisors. Teeth have not been located on the central axis thus causing the feeling for deviation from the medium point. Due to the fact that in principle TV image increases the size of the distances it would be good to fill in the gap. Besides, due to the gap the attention is additionally attracted by the deviation from the medium axis and face asymmetric. Fibres of the teeth colour and plastic brace have been used, because of the aesthetic requirements imposed by the job position of this patient. During the dental treatment of the journalist the audience did not notice anything, because, from a remote distance, the structure of these accessories was almost invisible.

Orthodontics and bounding
It has taken about eighteen months to reproduce this flat smile. You could notice that when the teeth are closer the deviation from the medium axis looks minimal and does not attract any attention. Above procedure aimed to bind the incisors with composite resin in order to prevent the secondary gap. Jaw motions increased not only the beauty of his smile, but also the quality of his bite.
